Update on Neria Leiter

Neria is the terrorist attack victim we prayed for at Noon Prayer yesterday.

I wanted to keep you posted. Just received the following from a representative of the Embassy of Israel to the United States.

Good morning, Billye. Thank you for praying with me for Ambassador Leiter’s son Neria. I wanted to update you with the latest news via the interview that the ambassador gave when he arrived at the hospital in Israel.

Ambassador Leiter’s remarks from earlier today (3:30 am EST), addressing the press at Shaare Tzedek hospital in Jerusalem:

“Thank you very much to the senior medical team treating our son Neria. We feel that we are in the best possible hands.

“Last night was extremely complicated. In fact, there was a real fear that I would land here this morning with no hope. Thank God, the doctors managed to stabilize his condition overnight, but his life is still in danger.

“This experience is different from the night when I received the knock on the door three years ago, when my eldest son, Moshe, who was fighting in Gaza, fell in the line of duty. He died immediately. There was no possibility of bringing him to the hospital and giving Israel’s top doctors the chance to save his life. Nor did we have the opportunity to gather around his bedside, recite Psalms, and rally the people of Israel to pray for his recovery.

“Our Neria grew up with Moshe in the same room. They were best friends, and Neria has led our family since Moshe’s death.

“I can say that on my way here, even while I was on the plane, I received a flood of messages from hundreds of synagogues and even from Christian churches that I have visited over the past year and a half. Millions of people, Jews and non-Jews alike, are praying for Neria. We are full of hope that Neria will pull through this and return to us safe and healthy.

“I want to add something on a personal note, but also on a broader, public level. I received the news yesterday in New York, immediately after an interview in which I was asked about the violence in Judea and Samaria. The violence there is Palestinians attacking Jews with the aim of uprooting Jews from this land. If there are incidents on the other side, they are exceptions—but the war taking place here is a war over the right of Jews to live in this land.”

“I explained in the interview that just on the eve of Yom Kippur, Netanel Shukrun was murdered while sitting beside his son at a spring. And yet that did not prevent the president of France, out of ignorance, malice and wickedness, from standing at the United Nations and saying that Hamas had never harmed Jews in Judea and Samaria. He and the other leaders who lie must be told—as I believe the Prime Minister will do this evening—that the goal is to uproot us from this place. That is the bottom line. Everything else is chatter. This did not begin on October 7. It began long before that, going back to the establishment of the State of Israel.

“As for Neria’s brothers and their generation, this is the greatest generation the Jewish people have ever produced. There has never been a generation like this: young people who risk their lives, who fought on October 7, and who have served hundreds of days in the reserves since then. Neria, too, was not obligated to continue serving in the reserves. They are all fighting together to defend this country.

“In addition, my eldest daughter, Sarah, whose husband has been fighting as the commander of the Shaked Battalion, already gave birth during the war to a daughter named Shaked and later became pregnant again. When she arrived at her brother’s bedside yesterday, her water broke, two weeks before her due date, and she gave birth to a baby girl. She is now lying just 40 meters away from her brother, who is in intensive care.

“I appeal to the people of Israel: we need a miracle. Your prayers can help.”
